Having Trouble Installing Your Pond? We Are Here To Help!
Fish Health Expert & Pond Installation!
It perhaps fortunate that my background as a Chemical Engineer helps tremendously in advising people about the right choices for ponds and pond equipment. After all a pond containing fish and other forms of life including aquatic and marginal plants is a complex chemical and biological environment that works best under stable conditions. In the world of chemical engineering and chemical plants it is critical to create conditions that are stable and if stability is lost then corrective action is applied at the right time and in the right format to restore the stable situation quickly. A failure to do this in the real world can lead to catastrophic results... think of Chernobyl for example. This is the basis on which I have advised people over many years on how to create and maintain great pond conditions.
There is always a reason why a pond goes green for example and if
the reason is known and if there is a suitable mechanism to control
that reason then a new clear pond equilibrium can be established by
correcting or managing the conditions that led to the formation in
the first place. If this cannot be done then to install equipment
that will reliably and consistently substitute.. i.e. we treat the
symptom rather than cure the cause..
To be a leading supplier of pond products it is important that
individual pond problems can be identified and corrected. It's not
just a matter of offering a product for sale and then hoping the
customer who buys the product remains happy and content.
There are few problems in pond keeping that I cannot advise upon but there is one area where I do not have the qualifications nor sufficient personal experience and as such these are areas where I do not provide advice. I am referring to fish health and medication regimes.

Luckily there are a few (and I mean a few) highly competent fish health advisers who have become experts not from reading books but by actually keeping and breeding fish of all kinds successfully for many years. Inevitably these people have experienced and learned to overcome and manage (cure) most pond health related problems... even in the best kept environments fish health problems arise and unless they are resolved quickly complications quickly set in and spread equally quickly and become EXTREMELY expensive and possibly deadly.
Colin has now joined our team. He has been breeding fish for a
living on a large scale for many years. He has major installations
and ponds of a variety of shapes and sizes. He has encountered and
resolved problems that few of us can even think of let alone manage.
He is not your typical academic expert, he is a real knowledgeable
and practiced expert. He has invested his own money and time over
many years to learn and thus manage a large complex ornamental fish
farming business.
When Colin talks, we listen and learn.
Thankfully hr has agreed to become part of our team so that we are
now in a position to not only advise and supply pond equipment but
to also offer the following services:
- Large Pond Design and Installation
Pond Health Management and Resolution
Large Pond Filter Installations and Maintenance
Automatic Pond Feeder Equipment Installation and Maintenance
Supply of Tilapia, Goldfish, Koi, Minnows, Catfish, Carp and others at fantastic prices direct from the breeder.
Swimming pool to pond conversions
Colin is also one of those guys who works 7
days a week since he recognizes that pond problems don't just occur
Mondays to Fridays. So please give Ken a call 083 441 2331 to make
inquiries, bookings or to ask about the availability of fish.
Here are a few points raised by Colin that provide a basic
background for fish keepers…However I must make this important note.
Self medicating can lead to more problems than solutions. It is a
highly specialised business and self medication is not normally
recommended.
1. Easier said than done… find out the exact problem since
treatments are very specific. At least take note of and write down
specific symptoms and conditions
2. In a mixed fish environment it’s important to take care since
what works for one is poison to the other.
3. It is normally important to modify the aeration regime when
treating pond water with chemicals. The use of chemicals often leads
to a reduction in dissolved oxygen levels in the water.
4. Over-use of medicines can result in a build up of resistance by
other pathogens to the medicines.
5. Certain medicines react badly if salt is used in a pond.
6. The effectiveness of chemicals can vary dramatically with some
being active for hours while others remain active for days.
7. Normally the UV light should be switched off during a period of
treatment with chemicals since it can interfere with the
effectiveness f the medicine.
