Fountains and Watercourses Such as Streams or Artificial Brooks
Watercourse
installations are usually copies from Nature, but are also, sometimes quite
consciously conceived as ‘concrete stepped’ installations. The principal is
always that water has to flow from a source at a higher level over a more or
less long and winding water course, to a lake, pool or water basin.
Important: Watercourse Considerations
1. For optimum circulation, the water suction point in the lower reservoir should be arranged to face the inlet from the stream
2. Edges should be built up along narrow sections of the stream
3. Ensure water feature pump is correctly sized to ensure a pleasing water flow rate.
The most important considerations are generalised in this sketch below. Taking short cuts in these larger installations will result in major disappointment and many hassles. Always be aware of safety considerations when installing in public places.
Key to the sketch below:..
| A: Drain Pipe | B: Submersible Pump | C: Flow Control Valve |
| D: Check (Isolation) Valve | E: Overflow Drain | F: Cover Grating |
| G: Delivery Pipe | H: Overflow Reservoir |
