Water Fountains & Water Displays Including Artistic Water Features
Fountains and water displays can be classified into three main types. The
first covers installations in which the element of water plays the dominant
role. The second covers those installations where the artistic design and
formation of the fountain is of prime importance with the water itself taking a
secondary role. The final area, which covers the majority of installations, is
where water and the design itself play almost equal roles and mutually reinforce
the effect of each other.
Examples of Artistic Use of Water Displays
For effective and efficient use of water in larger water features attention should be paid to many aspects of the design. The most important considerations are generalised in this sketch below. Taking short cuts in these larger installations will result in major disappointment and many hassles.
Typical Arrangement of Larger Display Water Fountains
Key to the sketch below:..
| A: Fountain Basin | B: Overflow Drain | C: Bottom Drain with Plug |
| D: Delivery Pipe | E: Secondary Water Supply | F: Fountain Attachment or Nozzle |
| G: Underwater Light | H: Cable Lead-Out Armature | I: Sump Pump |
| J: Return Flow Armature | K: Return Flow Pipe | L: Dirt Collection Screen |
| M: Pump Manifold | N: Centrifugal Pump | O: Power Supply |
Notice the design of the sump... a very low point where the sump pump is placed (for complete emptying of the water feature) and the centrifugal pump is lifted off the bottom to prevent large debris getting into the pump suction.
In public places safety must be considered at all times. Notice the red regions used for protecting electrical cables.
