Aquatic Plants for Ponds Now Available in South Africa
We receive so many enquiries for aquatic plants we have gone out there and
finally found a well established local grower of a wide range of pond plants
including a massive range of waterlilies, marginal and bog plants. It is out
intention to be able to send these plants all over South Africa in the near
future (
by
end of September). For the time being they are only available for collection or
delivery in and around Johannesburg/Pretoria.
Right now and up to the end of October Louisiana Irises (see image example) are about to come into full bloom and these magnificent specimen plants are available in many different colours.
Water lilies will also start blooming soon so it's the right time to buy and to let them get established. Treated well waterlilies will blossom right through the summer. Once again there is a magnificent choice from hardy types to tropical waterlilies covering the full colour spectrum. The list below is the complete list of plants grown locally. It's best to give us 3 days notice so that the pond plants can be harvested and packed properly for distribution countrywide.
We also supply a specially prepared potting soil for aquatic plants as well as packs of a pond plant formulated fertiliser tablet.

| NYMPHAEA... Water Lilies. Available from September 18th | |||
| Nymphaea, better known as Waterlilies, comprise both Hardy and Tropical varieties, these have floating or emergent flowers respectively, set against a variety of lush green, maroon, and variegated floating foliage. Flowers remain open throughout the day closing by mid-afternoon with others only opening at night and closing the following morning. Each flower lasts between 3 and 4 days with a succession of flowers opening one after another throughout summer. Few other plants can match their long flowering season and the variety of shapes, sizes and colours they are available in, these range from pristine white through yellow, peach, red, magenta, pink, purple, blue and even green! Waterlilies require a minimum depth of at least 15 cm of water above the growing tip of the plant as well as a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight to sustain optimum growth and flowering. For the best results transplant your waterlily into a larger container with our Waterlily Mix or fertilize with our special Waterlily Food once a month. All waterlilies go dormant during winter and whilst the Hardy varieties are fully frost-hardy, Tropicals should not be left in the pond where temperatures fall below freezing. When the pond plant is sent by courier the plants are packed free of soil in a plastic bag. They should be replanted in a container of at least the size shown here.  IRIS LOUISIANA...
NOW AVAILABLE. This group of native North American Irises belong to the series Hexagonae and are characterized by their love of water. They are equally at home under normal garden conditions. They are available in the full spectrum of colours, ranging from pure white through yellow, orange, red, purple, violet, magenta, blue, lilac, pink and all the shades in between. Their evergreen, strap-like foliage create the perfect foil for the large, showy flowers which appear in profusion from September through October.
